Poké, pronounced “POH-KAY”, means “to chop” in Hawaiian. It is chopped cubes of raw fish marinated in Hawaiian salt, spices, and sauces. But hey that’s a mouthful! So when your friends ask, you can tell them that Poke is cubed raw fish marinated with Hawaiian sauces & spices. Check out our menu to see what bowl you’d like to try!

POKÉ’S HAWAIIAN HISTORY

Poké originated in Hawaii by the native Polynesians centuries before the Hawaiian Islands were visited by Western travellers. Initially they prepared fresh fish caught locally and seasoned them with Hawaiian salts, seaweed, and crushed nuts, all of which are roots of the main poké bowl recipe we see today. Since its origin it has evolved over time to be a popular staple on the Hawaiian Islands.

Poké is now served as a popular staple to locals and tourists alike. Hawaiian poke in Hawaii is usually sold by the pound or served traditionally on hot rice & furikake seaweed seasoning. From 2014-2017 it gained traction in North America in both US & Canada with brands like us. Poké has since evolved to what we call a Poké bowl. Each bowl starts with a base of rice or salad, add your favourite Poké scoops on top, customize your poké bowl or poké salad with toppings like corn, edamame, and finally drizzle a classic poké sauce on top like Shoyu or Spicy Mayo.

What Makes Poke Healthy

With so much goodness packed in a bowl of food, it is no longer a secret that poke is a healthy alternative to the many other calorie-dense dishes. The dish not only looks visually appealing but is also incredibly healthy and packed with nutrients that the body requires.

1.   Source of Good Fats

Poke is rich in Omega 3 and other good fats that are essential for the human body. Salmon, tuna, and other fatty fishes used in a poke bowl contribute to providing a significant amount of fats for the body.

2.   Highly Customizable

One of the best things about a poke bowl is that you can customize it according to your likes and dietary requirements.

You can choose your preferred choice of grains, protein, vegetables, sauces, and other additions. If you’re feeling like having fewer carbs, opt for our salad option.

3.   TASTIER Alternative to Salad

You can load up on a good amount of poke without worrying too much. On top of that, poke in combination with our veggies and bases, is a natural source of fibre, protein, with macro and micro nutrients.

4.   Nutrition Dense

If you substitute white rice for a healthier option like quinoa or a salad base, you will have a bowl that is rich in fibre and proteins. People who are gluten intolerant can go any of these options.

When it comes to poké, the possibilities are endless. What’s even more amazing is you can actually get your daily dose of nutrients, vitamins and anti=oxidants from one simple, easy bowl of poké.
